Internet of things: establishing wifi connection with your ESP8266 board

Why ESP8266, or NodeMCU?

In Mark Rober's latest Youtube video, he used a similar board for his Shark experiment. Also, this board will probably work with anyone's budget, since it costs around $6. It is also extremely portable considering its Integrated support for the WIFI network, and it has low energy consumption. You will see a lot of blog posts that use this microcontroller!

The code below also requires the library "ESP8266WiFi.h"(if you are using another microcontroller, research, and find out what library to use).

Things to Keep in mind

Serial.begin();

This sets the data rate in bits per second (baud) for serial data transmission. Whenever you see "Serial.println();", it transmits whatever is inside the parenthesis with that data rate to the serial monitor in you Arduino IDE. The data rate can vary based on the microcontroller you are using.

Building on top of this

There are several things that you can do, but here are a few examples:

You can set up a local host connection and actually create an HTML page to receive and send requests, by using :

After this, simply do "web+=" to add HTML tags to your page.

You can also use a third party library called Blynk to establish connection to your mobile phone by downloading Blynk from the app store. A post about the Blynk library will be coming soon.
